28 and the wtf is going strong ... this is not the never ending story I wanted to be part of

September 21

Dreamt of David. He was having a party with some very weird women in attendance. One of them was funny though, and nice.

Julia back at work for the last few weeks. Milestones and forms updated. Ate - thai - at my desk and prepared for class that went okay. They listened and listened and then actually had some energy for discussion ... yay.

I don't know what happened - if anything happened. I did talk to mom in the morning and Jonas in the evening. Jim made hobo dinners. Returned to Start Trek Discovery - Stamets getting lost in the mycelial network seems an apt metaphor.

September 24
Started the day with Ackerman workshop on race. Very mixed bag of speakers with interesting but unusual speakers. Then lunch from Long John Silver at the park - a brief walk and a lovely compliment on my blue necklace. Then work and an admin meeting where I talked about the survey and got questions on everything it didn't do. *sigh* ... then a workshop where the poetry broke me. I was not able to do that work on tap and folded and then apparently missed a good discussion. Feeling very vulnerable and far from knowing what to do and not sure how to get there. Stopped by the second meet of GirlUp and they graciously let me go. Jim suggested a nap which helped and the hobo dinner night three also helped together with the last episode of season one of Discovery.

September 25
Today went better. Grad team meeting with Buki. Talked to Mom and had a brief visit with Kendra. Jim lost a hearing aid. Dinner from Terry Blacks. Watched two episodes of Rached - excellent acting and beautiful sceneries, but empty. Again and still, having to pull myself together. Feeling like I am behind but not sure where or how. OH yeah, assessment ...

Nurse Rached - dinner from Terry Blacks. I guess I just missed it?

September 27

Rachel and apartment hunting. She will make a spreadsheet. Got stuff from the store room. Prepared a midterm handout. Made a heavy brown and white necklace. More startrek. NYT say they have the tax transcripts ... lots and lots and lots of data.

WTF 27 - The second half of a year begins

 September 14

Spent most of the day prepping for class - and it went well. Watched a Jack Reacher while I made a necklace.

 September 15

Called Jonas to wish him happy birthday. Met a couple of students (one prospective Archer) and went to the rv place and they did not show their rvs because of the pandemic ... stopped at the Wooden spoon and got bread and licorish and then home and finally worked on the donation button and the other stuff.

Phew. Then episodes three and four of Discovery.

 September 16

Went to campus for lunch with Kim - really nice with a real life event. Student complaints against a ranting prof. Navigating, navigating .... Missives to and from MW and a text from D. so a social day. Called Caleb in the evening and then watched five and six of Discovery. So so tired.

 September 17

Slept late so I was better early in the day. Got some things done. Got not enough done. Read-In was good. Admin meeting okay. NR will apparently talk to the offender.

September 18
I got The Crying book and it is beautiful. RBG died. Scared, tired, depressed. Then I think people, some people, went through the holocaust, died in the trenches in WWI. We went for chocolate fudge sundaes late.

I read in The Crying book and it is beautiful. We went for breakfast to Oddfellows but it was too full, so instead we went to Fuel City for breakfast tacos and then to get the mail and then to Specs for more Campari. They also have Fernet Menta. Dinner at Lauri's. Tenuous grip on reality - fading in and out.

September 9

Day off - no boat ride but we took the cats to the vet and learned that Sigmund has kidney issues. Lunch in the park in Arlington, short stop at Michaels, got the cats back and then watched three episodes of Young Wallander. Talked to Beth about the trip and I think we are settled.

September 10

Day started with meeting w Shilyh, Pam, J and A. Went better than I feared. Then training from 22KILL and smore meetings. Admin meeting went okay. Jonas called (yay) and I got some done. Looks like the software I got will be great to edit videos - and not too terribly difficult to learn (We'll see).

September 11

19 years since 9/11. Premiere Rush works just fine when I figure it out. Adobe messing with me a bit, but mostly fine. Michele gave me an idea for how to grade the blog - just add to the total - so first x out of 16, then x+x out of 32, etc. Nils called to ask about something I had not done, but I got it over to him before the end of the day, so that was okay ... I guess. Some seem to have maybe forgotten they cannot use attendance as part of the grade for asynchronous students, hmmm. Sarah Millican is awesome.

September 12

What do I say ... regular run-ins are exhausting. We had breakfast at the park and before dinner we went and got a new rokuplayer that does cbs all access. Watched three first episodes of NCIS, sorta by mistake.

September 13

Better day. Talked to Rachel and almost finished book 9 (next week we will finish). Breakfast and then work for a bit and then out and picked up my prescription and then had lunch at schlotzky's on our way to elmonterv where we looked at rvs and got some ideas and then picked up the mail in arlington and then came home and did laundry and then we got pizza and watched two episodes of Star Trek Discovery and I almost cried at the sense of hope, of perseverance, of duty.

Jim had sent me a link to a review of the new Terence Malik movie - a hidden life - based on a quote from George Eliot about the honor of the hidden life, the life of Dorothea.

Eliot evokes the infinite ways that ongoing acts of moral courage throughout history are inevitably forgotten: “…[T]he growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.”

Of course no one in star trek lives a hidden life, but it gives comfort to think that dreams matter, that serving in some small capacity is possible and relevant.

And on to WTF 25 we go

 August 31

Symposium in a face to face class. Went pretty well, I think. They had read and they had thought about it. Not necessarily getting all the pieces in the right order, but still. And they talked, and engaged - Almost a third of them spoke regularly.

Before that Holly wanted numbers on Fred and Milt and Nils wanted the remaining committees for ZO. I sent out a survey and it took all of 2 minutes for Michael to find something missing. I fixed it. Then someone else found something else missing. Good times.

September 1

Tired tired and trouble focusing all day. Got names to Nils of committee members after I had spent hours trying to remap the network drives - arrrgh. Still no luck getting utd email to show up on my phone. Bleah. Finally had Jollibee for lunch and it was kinda sad. Chicken was not bad but the fries were ice cold and they were out of corn and halo halo. So, you know, sigh.

September 2

Dale's birthday, things and stuff and meetings and a less mercenary colleague and a staff meeting with never have I ever and a meeting about the new website and then we got the scooter for Harold and lost the cotter pin for the trailer and had to tape it together but we got it home. J had a freak out during the afternoon and generally panicked about the universe, but I think he got better. Samantha Bee did not make me feel stronger or better or happier. Told KG about how my body is trying to communicate with very odd symptoms how it understands something is wrong that is different, but does not know how to explain the weird.

Stomach was queasy and I was in pain. Still went to Lowe's and got the cotter pin for the trailer and had lunch from Taco Bell. Talked wiht Beth about a trip and what needs to happen. Then admin meeting and a looong discussion about the language requirement. Dinner with ham sandwich and Sarah Millican. and Sarah Pascoe. and Mo Welch.

September 4

Weird morning. Lunch from Potbelly in the park and the end if night... with Lucas Davenport. Talked to mom for an hour ... nice to catch up. Ended the day with Michele having questions about the graduate program and rules. Dinner from PF Chang and a minor crossways bit. I am so over that. If the stories coming out are true (and I think they are) and if the disrespect and dishonor are believed, the fruit may have planted its last potato. Talked with Jonas a bit, yay. Watched the Truman Show which really was a good retelling of Plato's cave allegory. Soundtrack by Philip Glass no less.

September 5

Breakfast at McDonalds and the park - very short walk. Home for a bit, then post office and the Amon Carter, then lunch at McInleys (or some such) at university park - great chicken salad. Quick stop at JJills and then to Kroeger where it rained when we got out with our shopping. Lots of people and several who do not know how to wear a mask. Arrrgh. Home and crashed and then The Autopsy of Jane Doe about a witch, maybe and The Outlaw Josey Wales ... strange and a bit of southern propaganda, but interesting none the less.

Talked to Inger and later to Annika. Was called a coward with lunch (that one will hurt for a while). Cleaned out the truck and watched Quigley down under. Did not end well. Almost figured out an RV.
